Video Game Night recap

•October 3, 2011 • Leave a Comment
Aston Mack of GameStop, Aaron Bley of LANKnights, Ashley Sears of NOS, and a couple NOS guys.

I would like to thank everyone who helped us run Video Game Night 3.

First and foremost, I would like to thank GameStop for sending out amazingly helpful people who helped us run the decathalon and bring NOS to give out free energy drinks and set up their own games.

I would also like to thank everyone from LANKnights who made sure the room was set-up in such a way to make this event the amazing success that it was.

This was, by far, the best event our two clubs have put on together, and this is something we will continue to build on in the future.

I would like to thank everyone who participated in the decathalon, and I hope it was a great experience for all of you.

Lastly, I would like to thank everyone who attended the event. Without you, it would have just been 20 people and a truckload of energy drinks, and lord knows that would have been lame.

Congratulations to all the tournament and decathalon winners!

The pictures will be up and edited soon, probably after sophomore portfolio review for art majors on Friday.

Video Game Night 3 this Saturday in Pegasus Ballroom

•September 27, 2011 • Leave a Comment

We have been doing a videogame night with , the computer gaming club at UCF, since 2009. It is a fairly new tradition, and we have been working the kinks out, but working with GameStop and LANKnights has been nothing but a pleasure. This is an event we do every semester, and in fall 2011, we are doing it in the Pegasus Ballroom for the first time.

To celebrate having a huge venue, we are planning on having bigger events such as a videogame decathalon, which GameStop will have a big part in, and on-stage set ups for Rock Band and Dance Central.

The main event this time around will be a Video Game Decathalon, hosted by GameStop and Anime Spot. The decathalon will consist of 9 levels of games from different genres across different systems. We have not released the list of games so the event will be wholly based on skill.

**Sign-ups for the decathalon will be from 12 (noon) until whenever it fills up. We will have 30 spaces for the decathalon.

To participate in the decathalon, you must be in the room from when you sign up to 1 p.m. so we can explain the rules, then when your name is called. How long the event lasts depends on how many people sign up.

There will be smaller tournaments for the following games:

Super Smash Brothers Brawl – 3 p.m.
Pokemon BW – 5 p.m.
Blazblue – 8 p.m.
Rock Band 3 – 10 p.m.

We will also have fun games such as Gears of War 3, Taiko Drum Master and DDR for free play.

Outside Adventure Day recap

•September 26, 2011 • Leave a Comment

This past weekend, we had another awesome viewing night ending in Captain Harlock: Arcadia of My Youth. Now, everyone will be slightly less confused by the antics of the characters at Murder Mystery Night!

We also did something a bit unusual, though this is our second time this semester: We all went outside! Outside Adventure Day was an amazing success. We ate food that more than three people contributed, got free food from the other groups that were there and generally had a great time.

Most of our members canoed, pedal-boated or kayaked and some were even brave enough to do the single-person standing board thing (We’re still not sure what it’s called).  Only half of those brave enough met success along the way.

All of the pictures from the day are on facebook, but the above pictures will give you a glance of what happened. When the semester’s over, we will make a gallery of all the highlights of the semester.

The general consensus was that we have to do this again sometime, so maybe we will.

Viewing Night featuring Captain Harlock and Outside Adventure Day

•September 20, 2011 • Leave a Comment

We will have a viewing night this Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Key West, room 218AB of the student union. We will be watching more anime episodes from the most recent seasons. previous seasons.

The feature of the night will be Captain Harlock: Arcadia of My Youth. Captain Harlock is one of the main characters in Murder Mystery Night, so this movie will introduce those of you who may not know who he is to his character.

Dues and tshirts would be available, each for $10.

Remember when we said we would actually be going outside one day? Well, Sunday is the day!The official time is 2 p.m. – 5 p.m., but I’m pretty sure Lake Claire doesn’t close. We might not be able to rent boats and volleyballs after a certain time.

We have the pavillion reserved, and we are allowed to use the grills. We will need everyone who can to bring food, including snacks and food to grill.

At Lake Claire, we can reserve canoes or kayaks. There is a sand volleyball court, so we can play a slightly easier version of volleyball than we played last time. There is also a nature walk area, if some of us are feeling so adventurous.

On a side note, if you’re into the whole dodgeball thing, there will be . It’s not hosted by us, but it’s open to anyone who wants to play.

New Anime, and more Dates on the Calendar!

•September 8, 2011 • Leave a Comment

Last week’s meeting left some people full of nostalgia and some people full of confusion with shows like Fighting Foodons and Medabots and our feature, Diaboromon Strikes Back. Our first themed viewing night was a success, so we will definitely be having more of those in the future. Some game with “ninja” in the title was played during the break and after we were done showing anime. Overall, it was a fun time, as was the trip to some restaurant that’s not Steak n Shake.

The rain moved aside for most of the weekend so we could enjoy our Back-to-School Pool Party. We all had fun playing volleyball badly and celebrating the day before Labor Day with grilled food and many varieties of chips. On top of that, only a few of us got sunburned, unlike our last pool party where only a few of us managed not to. Hopefully we will have the same luck with the next event we have outside.

This week’s meeting, which will be taking place 7:30 p.m. Friday in room 218AB of the student union, will feature new anime such as Mawaru Penguindrum and Tiger and Bunny. The feature of the night will be You are Umasou.

We have some dates to announce, so you better be there! …or just look at the events page on the website you are already viewing this weekend when all the dates are posted. Either way, we have some fun events coming up, and we’re excited to announce the dates and locations.
